Members of Tenby Friendship Club have enjoyed a holiday staying at the Novotel Hotel in Sheffield. This is just in front of the Sheffield Winter Gardens, a wonderful tropical “glass house” with seats, and cafes.

On their way to Sheffield, their coach driver, Bob, took the friends to Chippping Camden, only to find that the road in was closed off. The coach circled around and came to the other road in, to find it closed too. Stopping on the side of the road, a decision was being made to go to Broadway… but then workmen were spotted taking away the closed signs so the club was able to visit Chippping Camden after all!

The coach load of Tenby friends separated into various pubs and cafes for lunch, then, in the coach again continuing on to Sheffield, they were caught in a queue caused by an a big accident at the junction they were to turn off on. Two hours later, they were on the diversion road, and eventually arrived at the hotel for dinner two hours late.

Next day the driver took everyone to York, and all had a marvellous time, some visiting the Cathedral, some the Museums, most found the Shambles.

Late afternoon members gathered for the journey back to Sheffield, only to get caught in a queue again with another accident on the motorway. They arrived back for dinner only one hour late!

The third day consisted of a tour of the Peak district, to Buxted, and then a lunch break at Bakewell before going on to Chatsworth House for a guided tour. The Christmas decorations around the house were magnificent.

Leaving the estate after dark, Bob, the driver, refused to use the motorways, and drove back to Sheffield via country lanes and - guess what? - the Tenby friends arrived in time to change before dinner!

The return trip to Tenby was via Trentham Gardens and shopping centre. A remarkable holiday, one that won’t be forgotten in a hurry! The club say thank you to Taf Valley Coaches and Bob, and to Jan too.
