The funeral will take place tomorrow (August 7) of former Tenby firefighter Martin Hurlow, with the procession passing the town’s Fire Station before a service is held at Tenby RFC’s ground on Heywood Lane, where family, friends, and work colleagues will be able to pay their respects to a man who gave over 35 years of service with the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and continued to be an active member of the community.
Martin passed away on July 16, aged 67, leaving to mourn his wife Julie, and three daughters Louise, Carly and Jody.
“The sudden passing of Martin has not only left the personnel of Tenby Fire Station, but also the whole community in a state of shock,” said current watch manager at Tenby Fire Station Jeremy Lees, last month.
“The vast number of condolence messages and tributes received are testament to the high regard in which he was held within the community, and reflect his personality and popularity.
“Even though Martin retired in 2013, he never really left us and continued to be involved in all our charity and social events.
“He was always a major part of Tenby Fire Station and the memories we all hold will ensure he remains so. God bless you Big Marty, may you rest in peace,” he added.
The funeral cortege will be leaving Picton Road at 12.15 pm on Friday, and travel along the following route: Picton Road turning left onto South Cliff Gardens, then turning left onto South Parade and continuing across towards Tenby Fire Station.
The cortege will then turn right onto White Lion Street to the seafront and turn left onto the Norton, continuing along Narberth Road, and turning left at the roundabout to Serpentine Road and finally right onto Heywood Lane Rugby Field.
The funeral service will commence at 1 pm followed by a private service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.
There will be family flowers only, with donations, if desired for the Firefighters Charity; and Wales Air Ambulance, which may be sent c/o E. C Thomas and Son Funeral Directors, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, Narberth.
