The award-winning Narberth Food Festival will be serving up its lively mix of treats in its usual venue this year, despite part of the land being earmarked for building. Although a planning application for a residential and retail development for the site of the town's old school is currently in the pipeline, Pembrokeshire County Council has given the go-ahead to the festival to once again set out its stalls on the school playground and Town Moor. "It's great news," said festival chairman, Huw Jones. "This looks like being the last time that Narberth Food Festival is in this location, so we are determined to make it the best yet. "As always, we will have that unique Narberth mix of good food, great talks and demonstrations and entertainment for all, in a relaxing atmosphere." The event - which has twice scooped Gold for Best Event in the Pembrokeshire Tourism Awards - takes place on September 27 and 28, and has already sold out its 50-plus stallholder pitches. Festival patrons Angela Gray and Elisabeth Luard will be headlining in the Food Theatre, with Will Holland from Saundersfoot's new Coast restaurant joining Stephen Terry, Duncan Barham, Ludovic Dieumegard and Lisa Fearn in the line-up of top chefs. There will also be a return of the Talks and Tastes sessions which proved so popular when they were introduced last year, and a full programme of live music and entertainment, together with free activities for children. The event was also awarded a Silver in the 2013 Pembrokeshire Tourism Awards for its facilities for the disabled. These include British Sign Language-interpreted cookery demonstrations, and the welcoming of a group of hearing-impaired youngsters to the festival's Education Day curtain-raiser, attended by around 100 local schoolchildren.
