Saturday night scenes at the junction of Tenby’s Upper Frog Street and St. George Street were causing concern to residents and members of the borough council.

One councillor called for a ‘blitz of the area’ - as the general purposes committee received a letter signed by 29 residents and ratepayers of St. George Street complaining of ‘rowdyism and obscenity’ occurring late at night in the area.

Proposals by the Wales Tourist Board to establish three regional tourist organisations in Wales were severely criticised by Mr. Ian Bell, chairman of the West Wales Tourist Association.

He claimed that Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire - two counties which were now Wales’ second most active tourist areas - would lose their identity in a new region stretching from Newport, Monmouthshire, to Milford Haven.

Tenby United rugby club’s celebration dinner-dance was held at the Marina Ballroom in Tenby, when a company of 100 sat down to an excellent turkey dinner.

The chief guests were the Mayor and Mayoress, Clr. and Mrs. Gilroy Phillips. During the evening an inscribed gold watch was presented to Welsh secondary schools captain David Morgan, by the vice chairman Mr. Trevor Lloyd-Jones.

Saundersfoot was en fête for the St Issell’s Festival Week to celebrate ‘Investiture Year’. The week which opened with a parade and service at the church, was formally opened by the Hon. Trevor Lewis, chairman of the parish council.

It had been favoured with brilliant sunshine and a number of attractions had been well frequented by villagers and holidaymakers.

The post office provided new letter boxes for St Florence, Tenby and Pembroke Road, Haverfordwest.
