Pembrokeshire County Council’s new chairman, Clr. Martin held an American-style ‘meet the press’ event at Haverfordwest. At the meeting, Clr. Martin, a successful farmer from St. Davids, predicted that Pembrokeshire was on the threshold of a ‘great future’.

The outgoing chairman of Narberth Urban Council had good news for the town in his final speech from the chair. Clr. Charles Salmon said before handing over to Clr. Idris Williams that even if the printing works left Narberth, he knew of other industry interested in coming to the town.

Against a background of slogan-carrying banners and posters - the familiar trappings of an American political convention - Desmond Donnelly launched his new United Democratic Party at Haverfordwest.

Disappointment awaited a large number of cubs and scouts who travelled from various parts of Pembrokeshire to Haverfordwest for the annual Mayor’s Service which they had been told, Prince Charles would be attending.

Around 150 youngsters, including a group of 18 sea scouts from Tenby, together with their officers, paraded smartly through the streets of Haverfordwest following the service at Bethel Baptist Church for the newly-installed Mayor, Clr. Stuart Hayden.
