Tenby was the equal of best in British seaside resorts and could become the best in Europe. That was the high tribute paid to the town by the new general manager of the Wales Tourist Board, Mr. G. Harold Naylor. Top money earner of the 200 young people who took part in the 12-mile walk for Christian Aid Week funds was a Tenby secretary, Miss Jean Williams, of Ralph Dairy. Miss Williams, who was one of only a small number of adults among the long train of walkers, collected a total of £43 from her sponsors.

Despite adverse weather conditions, a number of new records were set-up in the field events at Tenby Greenhill County Secondary School’s annual athletic sports at Heywood Lane. The winning house was again Robert Recorde who have, since their formation only a few years ago, won most of the honours in both winter and summer sports. Their total of 267.5 was 31 points ahead of St. Davids with 236.5, who were only six points ahead of Glyndwr tudor trailed the field with 187.5 to their credit.

New records established were:?senior boys long jump - Ian Alexander (St. Davids); junior boys long jump - Richard Ormond (Robert Recorde); senior boys triple jump - Jim Shanklin (Record); middle boys shot - Michael Turnbull (St. Davids), Colin Ebsworth (Glyndwr), Nigel Shepherd (Tudor), all three breaking the existing record; sub junior boys hurdles - Anthony Hewitt (Glyndwr); junior girls hurdles - Sarah Joseph (St. Davids).

Sports champions were: junior victor ludorum - Anthony Hewitt (Glyndwr); senior victor ludorum - Jim Shanklin (Recorde); junior victrix ludorum - Heather Parsell (Recorde); senior victrix ludorum - Carole Williams (Recorde) and Wendy Llewellyn (Tudor).
