Celebrating its first birthday is popular Tenby creative café Babi-Beau.
The brainchild of teacher Rachel John, Babi-Beau, situated at Sainsbury’s Complex, Upper Park Road, has enjoyed a highly-successful first 12 months in business.
Babi-Beau offers the opportunity to create a huge variety of arts and crafts for all occasions, including ceramic painting, jewellery making, woodwork, sewing, glass painting, mask-making, fabric painting, photo bunting and much more. Many of the items make unique keepsakes, especially as most can be personalised.
Build a Bear packages are favourites, too, with the teddy or animal, choice of outfit, stuffing, make a wish insert, plus a photo of the child with the bear and certificate in a presentation envelope for £25.
Babi-Beau is the perfect venue for children’s parties, with crafts, decorations, party bags, face painting and glitter tattoos included. In fact, it’s the perfect birthday solution for parents, as all they have to do is supply the birthday cake! They can relax and enjoy the celebrations whilst Rachel entertains the children.
Looking towards Christmas, Babi-Beau holds the answer for all your presents. Rachel has a wide selection of handpainted festive personalised keepsake gifts, including Christmas Eve boxes, wooden plaques, mugs, plates and decorations, Christmas countdown Santas and other unique items to make special one-off gifts to be cherished.
In addition, Babi-Beau is a uniform stockist for Tenby’s two new schools, Hafan y Mor and Tenby Church in Wales VC Primary School, with talks underway for other schools in the area, plus Rachel offers printing and embroidery for businesses, including aprons, polo shirts, hoodies and fleeces.
Another favourite is having children’s own designs and drawings printed onto t-shirts and sweatshirts - another great Christmas present idea!
Rachel founded Babi-Beau five years ago following the birth of her son, Beau, who she named the business after.
She was keen to put her art and design skills to good use by doing creative work in the evenings, so started designing and printing t-shirts and making bespoke personalised gifts which she sold via her online shop.
She returned to teaching, and taught art at Tenby’s Greenhill School, but continued with her Babi-Beau work in the evenings, as the business continued to expand and Rachel outgrew her ‘studio’ at home. With an opening in the market for affordable indoor entertainment all-year-round, she finished her teaching job and opened for business on October 24, 2015, with all her arts and crafts, gifts and design work under one roof.
Babi-Beau has proved extremely popular and Rachel has built up a strong local following, with those visiting the café loving the idea of making their very own unique arts and crafts from just £1.
To celebrate her first anniversary, Rachel is holding a birthday party on Monday, October 24, with birthday cake and refreshments, while on Saturday, October 29, she is staging a Hallowe’en party as part of a number of events in the town that day.
Babi-Beau will kick-off the Hallowe’en festivities with a party from 2-4 pm. It will be an afternoon of light-hearted fun with crafts, lantern-making and face painting, with gifts and treats too. Hallowe’en costumes are optional and tickets are £8.50. Please book to avoid disappointment.
The other events in the town that day include a zombie walk at 4.30 pm, a Hallowe’en trail at 5.30 pm and fancy dress disco at the De Valence at 6.30 pm.
Rachel will also be holding Christmas shopping evenings every Friday from November 4 until December 16, showcasing a huge range of locally designed products, hand-crafted items and unique personalised gifts by various local designers and small independent businesses. Customers will be able to enjoy a glass of wine and nibble from 6.30 pm while they browse the displays and order their presents all under one roof.
Hot and cold beverages and a wide selection of cakes and snacks are available to enjoy whilst creating your masterpieces, so all in all making for an enjoyable visit which families are sure to want to repeat.
Rachel is more than happy to discuss ideas for visits to the café by groups and organisations, as well as party ideas.
