A fang-tastic two days of scary spooks, fabulous fireworks and pimped-out pumpkins was enjoyed by thousands of people in Saundersfoot.
The village’s Big ’Double’ Bang Weekend combined all the fun and festivities of Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night and was a sparkling success.
“Everybody embraced the weekend with great gusto and the village was heaving - as busy as New Year’s Day,” said Michael Slade, vice-chairman of Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, which organised the event.
“It brought a huge influx of people into the area, and quite a number who said it was their first time attending the event.”
A lively funfair on the harbour car park added to the atmosphere on both the Friday and Saturday, with 18 businesses creating displays in seasonal style in a bid to win the shop window competition.
The overall winners were Frosts Hardware on the High Street.
Added Mr Slade: “Many of those voting said how impressed they were with all the windows in the village and that would have liked to have voted for all of them."
Commented one visitor: “Well done, Saundersfoot! There has been a brilliant atmosphere right through the village. Me and my family have had a brilliant weekend, and are looking forward to next year already.”
Over 300 people joined in the Spooky Bat Trail, searching out the 31 cuddly bats hidden in shops and other businesses around the village, in a bid to win one of three Bat Bags filled with Hallowe’en goodies and their own spooky bat.
There were also nearly 40 entries in the pumpkin carving competition, hosted by Dilys Photography Gallery, with some great prizes donated by local businesses for the winners and a goody bag for every entrant.
Friday evening’s Trick or Treat trail, followed by a sell-out disco, which were both organised by Wiseman’s Bridge Rowing Club, also added to the spook-tacular success of the weekend.
The whole event was crowned by two magnificent fireworks displays over the harbour, superbly delivered by Galaxy Fireworks.
