Saundersfoot is all fired up for a fang-tastic time as it combines the fun and festivities of Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night into its Big Bang weekend.
The family-friendly event, taking place on Friday and Saturday, is set to bring a boost to local trade - and particularly pumpkin sales, forecasts its organisers, Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism.
“For the first time this year, we’re having a competition for the best carved pumpkin which we think is going to prove very popular,” said chamber chairman, Phil Odley. “There is great enthusiasm around the village for the weekend, and we are very pleased that several new businesses in Saundersfoot are joining our established traders by entering into the spirit of the occasion with fancy dress and decorated windows.”
Friday sees a children’s Trick or Treat trail between 6 and 7 pm, organised by Saundersfoot Youth Club. This will be followed by a disco at the Regency Hall from 7 to 9 pm.
“Anyone who would like to take part in this event should make sure they are in Saundersfoot Sports Club before 6pm to pick up a £3 ticket, as a sell-out is expected,” said Mr. Odley.
All the proceeds from the Trick or Treat trail will be in aid of Saundersfoot Youth Club and Saundersfoot Playgroup.
Entries for the pumpkin competition should be taken along to Dilys Photography Gallery in High Street from today onwards, in time for judging at 5 pm on Saturday.
The free fireworks display takes place at 7.30 pm Saturday, with Galazy Fireworks - the company responsible for Saundersfoot’s renowned New Year’s Eve show - in charge of the pyrotechnics.
The weekend also features a funfair on the harbour car park from noon on both days, and there’s free entry for everyone into the Spooky Bat Trail to track down the cuddly creatures in shops and businesses around the village.
Entry forms can be picked up at the Friday night disco or at the coffee shack on the harbour.
Throughout the event, there will be limited parking on the harbour, with more parking nearby in the Regency Hall car park and just a short walk away at Coppet Hall, via the spooky tunnel at the end of The Strand.
