The February meeting coincided with Valentines night but was also a big Birthday event for Kilgetty WI, it being 95 years since the first meeting!
There was a really good attendance and Anne the Deputy President welcomed everyone and also two visitors Jayne and Mim.
Treasurers report followed and many items of interest from the monthly newsletter, including an interesting article in WI life magazine about a member from Pembrokeshire.
Kilgetty WI are entering the rose bowl competition. Theme is ‘All things bright and beautiful’.
Quite a few members are attending the ‘Know your WI’ on March 10.
Many things were discussed, including a first aid course organised by Sally which is free of charge and available after April.
Members were asked for suggestions for donations to charities including Paul Sartori, Sandy Bear and Guide dogs to the blind.
The Ladies football logo has now been approved by Head of WI in Wales Rhiannon Connick after a lot of work by Kath and Helen.
Future outings for April - Shire Horse Farm and lunch, and June - Botanic gardens, were enthusiastically received, are also on the agenda and being organised by Anne.
A group of members joined other WIs and had a very enjoyable day in Cardiff, attending Strictly the Musical in January.
This was followed by Kilgetty member Jane Gilbert giving a fascinating talk on her time spent at a mission hospital in India in 1983.
Jane presented a slide show and lots of informative information and lovely memories of her work assisting in the pharmacy at the Kugler Mission hospital. The hospital was built in 1897 and had many departments and specialities including, maternity, ophthalmology , general medicine and theatres. It was open to all faiths and free to those who couldn’t pay.
A vote of thanks was given by Julia Mills.
This was followed by wine, tea and coffee and a beautiful celebration cake was enjoyed. Eileen cut the large cake, assisted by Diana and Peggy. This was all organised by Jane.
Books and photos containing the history of Kilgetty WI were displayed for everyone and Peggy read an extract from the first meeting of the WI minutes of February 23, 1928.
Competition was an Indian scarf won by Penny; raffle was won by Anne. It was a very enjoyable meeting.
Next meeting is Tuesday, March 14 at 7pm; visitors are always welcome.
