A SPRINKLING of celebrity MasterChef champion will help celebrate 25 years of Narberth Food Festival this September - the ever-popular Wynne Evans.

The TV, radio and opera star, who hails from Carmarthen, will be sharing his love of food and Welsh produce when he appears at the two-day festival on September 27 and 28.

Wynne, who won the 2023 series of Celebrity MasterChef, regularly discusses all things food and cooking with his legion of radio fans, known collectively as the Wynners.

Until recently he hosted the highest-rated daily show on BBC Radio Wales and his new independent online radio offering, The Wynne Evans Show, went live on Monday (June 16, 2025).

Holly Robinson, one of the committee volunteers behind the scenes at Narberth Food Festival, said: “We are delighted Wynne will be joining us in what is a very big year for the festival, it being 25 years since our not for profit volunteer-run event began.

“Wynne is hugely popular locally and his radio shows in particular are renowned for bringing a dose of joy, laughter and companionship for many. Food is a regular topic of conversation and banter with his listeners.

“We are looking forward to seeing what he serves up in Narberth and are pleased to announce he will be with us for both days of the festival.”

Wynne has spoken openly about his difficult year since joining the cast of Strictly Come Dancing in 2024, including the end of his BBC radio show.

In addition to his TV and radio appearances, during a 25-year operatic career, Wynne has performed at major opera houses worldwide, including The Royal Opera House and the Metropolitan Opera. He has released two number-one classical albums. Widely known as Gio Compario in Go Compare’s iconic ads, he has also written and produced over 150 commercials for the brand.

Wynne is also a familiar face in Pembrokeshire as he is president of Tenby Male Choir; he was one of the special guests at the choir’s 50th anniversary dinner last month.

One of the longest-established food festivals in Wales - and also ranked as the friendliest - Narberth Food Festival was founded in 1998. It has been held annually on the fourth weekend of September since its founding. The festival is run by volunteers and showcases local and Welsh food and drink.

Allowing for the years 2020 and 2021, when Covid restrictions and lockdowns meant the festival could not take place, this year sees the 25th iteration of the annual food lovers’ event.

The 2025 Narberth Food Festival will take place on September 27 and 28 at the Town Moor car park. A packed programme features live music, chef demonstrations and talks, food stalls, street food, a bar and more.

A festival park and ride scheme will be in operation across the weekend. More details about this year’s arrangements will be announced nearer the time.
