Narberth Probus Ladies Club members were treated to a remarkable visual display of the Pembrokeshire landscape and its many colourful hues.

Secretary Lindsay Oeppen was delighted to welcome back Dr Robert Llewellyn Davies to the October meeting of the Club to present a wonderful selection of photographs of the many beautiful places he had visited in Pembrokeshire.

His talk was inspired by a poster designed by Emily Mackenzie, focussing on all things quintessentially Welsh entitled "50 Shades of Wales". It Included the colours Dragon red, Coracle blue, Leek green, Rarebit yellow and 46 other bright colours to remind everyone of their favourite Welsh associations. Dr Davies decided to assemble a collection of his own photographic memories of the many colours to be seen in Pembrokeshire.

He began his presentation with some spectacular photographs of the Pembrokeshire coastline with its many secret coves, mud flats, estuaries and rivers, all displaying a rich variety of colour. He then took in ancient woodlands such as Colby, places of antiquity like Pentre Ifan, beautiful islands including Caldey, and the rugged Preseli moorlands.

The display was interspersed with inspirational quotations from famous artists, poets, scientists and philosophers and Dr Davies’ own personal recollections of each picture.

All agreed that it had been a fascinating visual journey around our beautiful county and thanked Dr Davies for making it such a worthwhile experience.

The next meeting of the Club will be at 11am on Friday, November 3 at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel and the speaker will be historian Gareth Mills. New members are always welcome.
