An annual fundraiser which saw six local choirs compete against each other has raised an amazing £3,412.78 for the Wales Air Ambulance.

Bluestone Brewing Company, which is based in Cilgwyn, North Pembrokeshire, hosted the sing-off.

Over the years, the choir sing-off has gained a reputation for being a fun and lively community event and this year was no different. The evening, which took place on Saturday, June 24, was compered by stand-up comedian Steffan Evans, who kindly donated his time free of charge.

The choirs that took part were the Decibelles, Bois Y Felin, Llangwm Village Voices, Cor Cardi Gan, Cor Dsygu Cymraeg Sir Benfro and Choirs For Good Haverfordwest. Each choir was asked to perform two songs in front of an audience and judging panel.

All six choirs were encouraged to have fun with their songs and the audience was thoroughly entertained. Each choir took to the stage and sang their hearts out to help raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance.

The Decibelles were crowned Bluestone Brewing Co Choir of the Year and took home the coveted trophy after a roaring rendition of The Greatest Show from The Greatest Showman.

The £3,412.78 was raised through ticket sales, bar profits, donation buckets and a donation from Cegin Cwm Gwaun, who provided catering for the event.

This latest fundraising event took the total raised by the Bluestone Brewing Company for the Wales Air Ambulance charity over the last 10 years to over £15,000.

The eco-friendly, award-wining micro-brewery and events venue is the first brewery in the world to be given the Green Key Accreditation, an international award that recognises environmentally sustainable businesses.

Emily Hutchinson, Marketing Director at Bluestone Brewing Company said: “We are so happy to have raised £3,412.78 for the Charity this year. It’s a great feeling to be able to donate such a large sum of money. The donation is a reflection of the very generous community that we live in.

“Living in a rural community, we know how important the work of Wales Air Ambulance is. We are so grateful for the amazing work that they do, and we really would be lost without them.

“This event is one that we look forward to every year. The fundraising is the main reason for the event, but it's always a great opportunity to bring the community together and celebrate the wonderful choirs that we have in the area, you can't beat a night of Welsh sing-song!”

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise more than £8 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

Hannah Bartlett, Wales Air Ambulance Community Fundraiser, said: “Thank you to Bluestone Brewing Company for holding yet another successful choir sing-off event and for raising more than £3,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance. Your support over the years has not gone unrecognised.

“Our Charity truly appreciates the £15,000 that you have donated over the last 10 years. With your support we can continue to serve the people of Wales when they need us most, by air or by road. Thank you so much for your continued loyalty and support.”
