Tenby Fun Palace

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 1, Tenby will have a Fun Palace in Augustus Place Community Hall from 10am to 3pm. A Fun Palace is an enjoyable way to try out new things just for the fun of it. The idea behind it is that we all have talent, just in amazingly different things, which we ourselves often take for granted and assume everyone can do. What is yours? Are you good at darning or cross stitching or identifying leaves or cooking something, or wrapping a parcel, or what? It can be anything as long as you can bring what you need with you so you can show people how to do it. It can take five seconds or five minutes or longer, it’s up to you. While you are there, you can wander about and try things that other people have come with. You can, of course, just pop in and out for part of the day, or stop for longer. Tea and coffee will be available all day. It is all free!

Tenby Library Community Orchard

Thanks to Keep Wales Tidy, there will soon be deliveries to Tenby Community Learning Centre/ Tenby Library of trees, bulbs and park benches to plant a community orchard in the grounds in front of the building. When everything has arrived, there will be a day arranged to put everything in, and volunteers will be needed to help with this. There are only 12 trees and lots of bulbs, so no heavy work is required. Please come and help to make this a welcoming place to sit and read a book in the fresh air, or just to enjoy being outside! Let me know on [email protected] or 842730 if you can help.

Films4Tenby present ‘Spencer’

On Tuesday, October 4, Films4Tenby will be screening ‘Spencer’, the new Princess Diana biopic. The film will start at 7pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome, entrance is £5 or £4 for members. You can also book a two course pre-screening meal for £13 with the Fuchsia Caffe – get in touch directly with them,

World Animal Day

World Animal Day is on Tuesday, October 4, and is a day for raising awareness of animals and how we are looking after them. This is a good time to find out about your favourite animal, and see how it is doing – is it endangered? Is it struggling to find suitable places to live? Is there something we could do to help? There has been lots of publicity about bees, and we need to do a lot more to make sure they have plenty of places to live and eat, but there are other animals that need our help too.

A Windrush Celebration at Tenby Museum

Next Friday, October 7, the museum is holding an interactive celebration of the people who sailed on Empress Windrush and their contribution to Welsh history and culture including artist and writer Eve Howard, Sheba Soul Ensemble Black Woman’s Theatre, and Windrush testimonies. It should be a great evening. Everyone is welcome. This event is free.

World Space Week

World Space Week runs from October 4 to 10. There are some online events during the week that you can find on www.worldspaceweek.org but you could also do your own celebrating by looking into what is happening at the moment in astronomy. Maybe this is a good time to have a go at star gazing and see how many planets and constellations you can identify. There are some great space themed crafts too – you can make a five-pointed star out of four lolly sticks, make some stars and a crescent moon out of cardboard to be a mobile, make a sun out of scrunched up tissue paper glued to a piece of paper, do a cross stitch or paint the night sky.

Playful Communities

Does anyone have any ideas for things that could be done around Tenby that young people and children would benefit from? It would be good to get ideas from children, young people and their parents/carers. It could be anything, something to go in a play area, a group or club, things you have seen somewhere else, whatever you can think of. Until there are ideas, you can’t start to try and make them happen! Let me know what you think – you could send in something written or a drawing or a recording, I don’t mind. You can even pop in to the Town Council Office in the De Valence on Upper Frog St from Tuesday to Friday and you will probably find me there...

Tenby Arts Club

The new season of Arts Club evenings starts next Friday, October 7 at 6pm. Nick Jenkins is speaking on ‘So what is it about landscapes?’. Tenby Arts Club evenings are held in St Johns Church Hall on Warren St and entrance is £5 or £3 if you are a member. This includes tea/coffee and excellent biscuits after the talk. Membership is £10 annually and is due in October. Everyone is welcome. Note that this is an ‘Arts’ club, not a painting group. Although sometimes an artist will do a talk, the club aims to cover all the various arts. So, between now and Christmas, there will be talks on history, photography, and the natural world. There will be Gershwin and Porter songs, handbells, and more. This year is the 75th year of Tenby Arts Club, so in December there will be a celebratory lunch at the Giltar Hotel. Watch this space for more details.
