This year has been another excellent year for students studying their A-levels at Pembrokeshire College with 20 out of 21 subjects achieving a 100 per cent pass rate and the overall pass rate up to 99.2 per cent (national comparator for Wales: 97.3 per cent).

Pembrokeshire College students achieved some brilliant results across both A-levels and Extended Diplomas, with 170 students now looking to progress to a wide range of universities, including: Belfast, Cardiff, Exeter, Leeds, Swansea, Bristol, Central St Martins, and the University of Kent at Canterbury.

After achieving an A* and two A grades, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) student, and college student governor, Georgia Geary is heading off to Bristol University to read Medicine. Georgi, who studied Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, said: “There is a great mix of people in the college which I will really miss and the lecturers have been really fantastic - I would definitely recommend studying at the college!”

As well as her results, Georgia also picked up a cheque for £1,000, as part of the college STEM bursary which aims to support young people looking to pursue a career in the STEM subjects.

Fellow A-level student Amy Staff achieved an A and two B grades and, having completed a summer placement with the Nuffield Foundation, is now off to study Wildlife Conservation at the University of Kent.

After receiving this year’s A-level results for the college, head of faculty for humanities, arts and social sciences, Arwyn Williams, commented: “It is fantastic to see that our overall pass rate has increased to a staggering 99.2 per cent. We are incredibly proud of both our A-level and vocational students who have worked hard to secure their places at university or to progress straight into employment. We wish these students every success in the future.”

This year also saw a strong performance from students being supported via distance learning with Pembrokeshire College, with 34 per cent of students achieving A*/A grades in their online A-level examinations.
