A Whitland-based Welsh-medium playgroup which raised money by holding an afternoon tea has won a national competition.

Sponsored by Canolfan Peniarth, the competition was won by Cylch Meithrin Ffynnonwen, who last week received a ‘Cyw’ resources pack worth over £100 as their prize.

During the last week of October, Mudiad Meithrin conducted a fundraising campaign called ‘Rhywbeth neis, neis i de’ (Something nice, nice for tea), by encouraging staff, the cylchoedd volunteers and the provisions of the Mudiad to hold an afternoon tea to raise money for their local cylch or Mudiad Meithrin as a national charity.

A number of competitions were organised to promote the campaign and one was to create an exhibition on the theme to showcase the activities held at the Cylch Meithrin.

The aim of the ‘Rhywbeth neis, neis i de’ campaign was to hold afternoon teas events across Wales in order to bring the local community together to have fun, underline the importance of fundraising to the cylchoedd and to celebrate a Welsh tradition.

Held during Thanksgiving, it was also an opportunity to thank Mudiad Meithrin for giving the best start to the local children when embarking on their educational and linguistic journey.

Jill Lewis, Pembrokeshire support officer, said: “Thank you very much to Canolfan Peniarth for being so willing to offer a prize like this to the Cylchoedd. We are very pleased that Cylch Ffynnonwen has managed to win this national competition.

“I’m sure that the children will look forward to playing with all of the new resources at the cylch.”

As well as presenting this wonderful prize to Cylch Meithrin Ffynnonwen, Dewin (Mudiad Meithrin’s lovable character) also presented the cylch with a Silver standard certificate as part of Mudiad Meithrin’s quality accreditation scheme called ‘Safonau Serennog’.
