Two pupils from the pupil management board at Narberth School, along with headteacher Nia Ward, were among those lucky enough to attend the graduation ceremony for Hillary Clinton at Swansea University on Saturday.

The former First Lady of the United States, who ran for president last year, was being made an honorary fellow of the university, where a new Law School is to be named in her honour.

Pupils Annie Phillips and Annie Evans met Mrs. Clinton, who is an advocate for children’s rights. They discussed the work they had been doing last year as part of the Swansea University Little Voices Project and presented her with a Welsh love spoon engraved with the school’s details.

“She immediately related to this by saying that she had connections with Narberth,” said headteacher Nia. “Apparently her great-great-grandfather is buried here.

“We attended a lunch, where the girls and myself met with Carwyn Jones, First Minister, as well as Kirsty Williams, Minister for Education. Sally Holland, Children’s Commissioner for Wales, also had a lunchtime chat with the girls.

“It was a truly momentous occasion which I’m sure the girls will never forget.”
