DRESSED in full civic regalia, Haverfordwest’s mayor and sheriff visited one of the town’s primary schools, engaging with over 100 pupils about civic roles and sparking interest in community development.
On Tuesday, June 9, Councillors Randell Izaiah Thomas-Turner and Dani Thomas-Turner, visited Fenton CP School, where they spent around an hour speaking to the pupils about the roles of the Mayor and the Sheriff of Haverfordwest.

They brought along the historic Town Mace, giving the children the opportunity to learn about its significance and the traditions of the town. They also answered a wide range of questions posed by the school students, and the Mayor was “incredibly impressed by just how knowledgeable and engaged the pupils were.”

Some of the questions were outstanding, showing the pupils’ real interest in how their community works.
One question put to the students was, “What would you like to see in Haverfordwest?” and the Mayor was particularly struck by how many children said they would like to see more shops open in the town. “It was an insightful reminder that even our youngest residents care deeply about the future of our community and want to see it thrive,” he said.
“It is conversations like these with our local young people that truly make Haverfordwest the Best in the West. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and ideas give me great confidence in the future of our town.

“A heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful pupils and dedicated staff at Fenton School for making us feel so welcome and for inviting us to spend the morning with you. The positive feedback and warm reception meant a great deal to both Dani and me, and we hope we inspired some future civic leaders along the way.
“The future of Haverfordwest is bright, and today proved that beyond any doubt.”
