A cycling pair raising funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation were happy to be beside the seaside on the weekend, after taking on a four-day 524km journey from London to Tenby.

Matt Carr and his friend Daniel Pruchnie took on the challenge on Wednesday, August 11 before arriving in the coastal town on Saturday, and so far have raised nearly £6,000 for charity, in memory of Matt’s mum, Hazel Carr.

In the months running up to the bike ride, the duo spent many hours during evenings and weekends in training for the 320 mile challenge.

“We have self funded this trip, and all donations will go to the charity,” explained Matt.

“We had four days in the saddle, the first day was nice and sunny giving us a nice 150km ride. The next three days we had rain and headwinds. Half way over the Severn bridge to Wales, the heavens opened welcoming us to Wales!

“The final day was the hardest with some difficult hills on the approach to Tenby but worth it when we had the beautiful view over the beach. In total there were three falls and three flat tyres!” he continued

“The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease. Since 1990, when the charity was set up they have funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research, looking for ways to detect the disease as early as possible and save lives.”

The Foundation supports everyone, including family and friends, affected by lung cancer – from diagnosis, through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care, raising awareness to prevent future generations from getting it and challenging the misconceptions of lung cancer.
