Radio Pembrokeshire's Jim Hughes, who is a longstanding International Barker of The Variety Club of Great Britain, said that "following funding for a project for SNAP at Haverfordwest, we were told of further funding required for sensory projects at Narberth School for children with special needs. This was part funded by the Variety Club's Gold Heart scheme, but like all such projects, more funding would allow the project to progress. I happened to be chatting to Phil about the project and he kindly offered to try and help, and as a result a substantial cheque from Alstom has been presented"

While at the school, Phil Thompson also presented a further cheque to Milford Haven Town and County Councillor Mrs. Anne Hughes, who is chairman of Milford Plus, a group who are undertaking a project to enhance the front windows of empty shops in the town centre's Charles Street with historic transfers relating to Milford's history.
