Pembrokeshire charity Span Arts is reaching the end of its crowdfunding campaign which was launched at the beginning of December.

The online campaign, hosted by Crowdfunder.co.uk, was established to raise much needed core funds to help Span Arts continue to tackle social and rural isolation through delivering a range of workshops and events, and runs until January 12.

As a charity, Span Arts has always depended on fundraising, volunteer support, sponsorship and grants to enable it to provide a varied programme at affordable prices.

While reaching its 30th birthday in 2016, like many other 3rd sector organisations, Span Arts has felt the impact of funding cuts.

Manager Gwen Watson said: “Span Arts plays such a big part in so many people’s lives. Whether it’s providing entertainment for the littlies in school holidays with our family theatre programme, or the wide variety of music at The Queens Hall in Narberth, we work hard to bring something for everyone.

“The cuts over the last year have hit us hard, and we need a nudge to put us back on track, which is why we launched our own crowdfunding campaign,” explained Gwen.

“The fund started well, and has slowed down over Christmas. If everyone gave just £5, we’d hit our target in no time. The good thing is that we get to keep all monies raised even if we don’t hit the target.”

Span Arts’ mission is to provide ‘Arts for Everyone’ by presenting a diverse and varied programme of over 60 events and workshops per year of live music, comedy, theatre for adults and families and workshops and events at affordable prices, especially tackling rural isolation.

They have brought plenty of household names to Pembrokeshire, such as Kate Nash, Beverley Craven, Glenn Tilbrook, Charlotte Church, Dreadzone, and comedians such as Alan Carr, Shappi Korsandi and Mark Steel.
