Now that the children have returned to school after the summer holidays, many parents will be happy to know that they are being educated and looked after by professionally qualified staff all week, every week. That is until half term comes around, and it’s not far away.
Half term in Pembrokeshire runs from Monday, October 29 to Friday, November 2, but for three days of that week, children from the ages of eight to 12 are being offered the chance to take part in a creative arts project in Tenby run by professionally qualified people at St. Johns Church
This project is part of the 150th anniversary celebrations at St. Johns which, throughout the year, has put on many different events, such as concerts and exhibitions, and it was decided by the elders of the church to do something specifically for the young people of the area. Thus, the idea was proposed and forwarded by Melanie and Jim Walker, members of St. Johns and well known music teachers.
During the project, music tuition and experience will be very much a part of what is on offer, but there will also be classes in drama, art, film and photography.
These classes are all free, the whole project is being funded by the United Reformed Church. You and your children do not have to be church goers to attend, but naturally you have to apply in advance (and the cut-off date is October 1) so that numbers in the workshops can be organised in advance, therefore application forms must be completed in advance.
Local schools have been visited already and forms distributed, but still will be obtained by phoning Jim Walker 01834 870014
At the end of the work project, it is hoped that a free performance will be given at St. Johns to show off the work that the children have been involved in.
Even if your child has never had any musical tuition, they can apply to ‘give it a go’, and the same applies to the other art forms, so why not plan the half term break now? It will be more interesting than day-time TV.
