Local councillors have urged members of the public to put forward their views on proposals to cut some bus services in the area as part of a consultation launched by Pembrokeshire County Council.

The authority has stated that some services will have to be reduced next year because of the severe financial pressures facing Pembrokeshire and other local authorities, with cuts in the Welsh Government and county council’s transport budgets meaning that the funding allocated to passenger transport services will be drastically reduced.

The ‘Pembrokeshire Bus Services Consultation’ questionnaire came before members of Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Tuesday night.

The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, and her colleague Clr. Paul Rapi both agreed that some of the option boxes to tick as part of the survey, were a little ‘strange’.

Question 2 - ‘please identify which of the following best represents you’ with the options given as: frequent bus user; occasional bus user; non bus user; county council member; town/community council; organisation whose members use bus services - left Clr. Rapi a little baffled, as he felt it ‘strange’ why it was of any relevance to the survey whether you were a county or town councillor.

Another question giving options to tick, such as - healthcare, employment, shopping, school, visiting family and friends - as a status of most important, left the Mayor bemused too.

“I find that very sad and strange to have to tick just one box - people are affected in every way, so I don’t think this is a true questionnaire,” she commented.

Clr. Phil Baker, cabinet member for transport and infrastructure, has also urged the public to take part in the consultation and make their views known.

“We would like as many people as possible to let us know which bus services are important to them so that future changes have the least negative impact,” he said.

“There will be questionnaires on local buses and at libraries, leisure centres, and customer service centres.
