Councillors in Tenby have once again stated that they are unhappy that parking charges in the seaside resort are higher than anywhere else in the county.

Correspondence from Pembrokeshire County Council’s street care and parking services manager, Marc Owen, came before members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night, with a variation on ‘off street parking places’ across the county and an increase in charges.

Plans touted for Tenby include introducing - a one hour tariff for car parks at the North Beach, South Beach, and The Green; a two-hour tariff at The Green; a four-hour tariff at the South Beach; and a five-hour one at The Salterns.

‘Pop and shop’ bays to be introduced across the county will see one brought in at Tenby’s multi-storey car park; whilst a ‘motorhome’ tariff is to be introduced at the North Beach, Salterns and The Green.

The North Beach car park will also have its hours and days of operation changed from ‘seasonal’ to ‘all year charging’.

Commenting on the variations, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas said she was ‘very unhappy’ with the changes and increases.

“I still don’t understand why we pay differently in Tenby to everyone else in the county,” commented the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.

“I simply want someone from PCC to come and explain to us face to face exactly how the pricing is worked out, as we and the people of Tenby don’t understand!” stated Clr. Paul Rapi.

“Last year we wrote to PCC regarding the dramatically increased parking charges for Tenby, so maybe we should dig that letter out again as it will make exactly the same points that were ignored last year!” added Clr. Laurence Blackhall.

The correspondence states that the closing date for any written objections should be sent to PCC’s head of highways and construction, Darren Thomas, by July 12.
