Councillors in Tenby who fail to give advance notice of non-attendance to council meetings have been criticised by the town’s Deputy Mayor.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby town council, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that councillors who know well in advance if they are attending the scheduled meeting or not, should make the effort to inform the town clerk.
“Luckily, including myself there is five of us here tonight, so we are quorate to make decisions, but apart from illness, there should be no problem in attending unless you have given your apologies in advance.
“Considering that we have our ‘liaison link officer’ from Pembrokeshire County Council here too, it is very sad that there are so many people missing, and they have missed their opportunity to raise any issues.
“People might not like me saying it, but right or wrong, it makes it difficult to run a council,” continued Clr. Mrs. Brown.
The town clerk suggested that the clash of an awards night at Greenhill School may have accounted for the non attendance of some members.
