The new waste and recycling system – and how it was communicated to residents – is back on the agenda with questions to full council.

Independent group councillors Jamie Adams, Huw George, Elwyn Morse and Brian Hall have all tabled questions to the relevant cabinet member about the waste collection scheme introduced last month.

Cllr Brian Hall asks Cllr Cris Tomos: “Could I have an update on the roll-out of the kerb-side waste and recycling collections? It takes 40 minutes to empty one second-hand truck for kerb-side. Is this going to improve?”

Cllr Hall will aslo ask: “Why are all the excess boxes and bags for kerb-side now being taken and stored at Thornton?”

Cllr Jamie Adams’ questions focus on communication, calling on the administration to recognise there had been “a failure to communicate effectively with customers over the recent waste arrangements.”

He asks: “Can the Cabinet Member inform Council of the Contact Centre performance in terms of waiting times for August to November in the years 2016-2019, including the number of terminated calls, ie; those which the customer has not waited to engage with a staff member? Were any discussions held to scope the predictable demand placed on Contact Centre staff?”

And: “Does the Cabinet approved review of the authority’s communications services and staffing structure have a budget provision as approved by Council in February of this year?”

Cllr George’s question goes to the leader Cllr David Simpson: “With the introduction of the new waste collection regime, what are the Leader’s thoughts about the growth in and suitability of people offering services to collect waste and, with the reduction in Bring Sites, is he concerned that there may be an increase in fly-tipping in the county?”

While Cllr Morse asks Cllr Phil Baker: “Would the Cabinet Member for Transportation dispel reports that there is a growing discontentment amongst the authority’s waste and recycling lorry drivers arising from changes made to pay structures within the Waste and Recycling Service?”

Full council will be held at 10am on Thursday, December 19.
