Tenby Town Council has paid tribute to a former Mayor who passed away last week.

Mr. Lewis Richard Day, ‘known as Lew, passed away peacefully at Glanghwili Hospital, Carmarthen, on Monday, June 26. He was 90.

Lew was born in England, but chose to return to his family roots to make his life and much-loved home here in Tenby, where he played an active role in the community, both on the town council and as Mayor when he donned the scarlet robes of office in 1994.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, informed members of Lew’s sad passing.

“He was very much his own man and has requested that no-one wears black or sombre colours to his funeral,” he said.

The funeral will held at the Parc Gwyn Crematorium in Narberth at 1.45 pm today (Friday), followed by a memorial service at St. Johns Church, Tenby, at 3 pm.
