Plans to improve Tenby’s tennis courts while giving the public more access to the facility have been discussed this week.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mike Evans told his colleagues that he had been contacted by Tenby Tennis Club regarding the courts located at Greenhill School.
Clr. Evans suggested that as the school budget was ‘challenging to say the least’, he wondered if the town council could tap into possible funding to lead some improvements at the facility.
“The courts are in good condition, but the marked lines have worn away. Tenby Town Council did sponsor some nets for the court a few years ago, so I’m finding out a price to remark the courts,” he said.
“Dependent on the school agreeing, we are also looking at public access being afforded to the courts again. Anti-social behaviour on school grounds in the evening had led to the gates being locked - and of course the downside of this, was there being no access to the tennis courts for the public, but as the evenings are getting lighter, others would like to use the facilities,” continued Clr. Evans, who agreed to work with the town clerk to see if any costings could be unlocked through the town council to fund improvements at the facility.
