Working with local businesses and organisations, Pembrokeshire County Council has successfully created over 100 Kickstart opportunities for young people in Pembrokeshire.
Young people at risk of long term unemployment will have the chance to work for 26 weeks developing their workplace skills and experience in a broad variety of roles with both local employers and the County Council.
Alongside on-the-job training, young people will be supported to develop their employability skills and have the chance to achieve employment focused training and certification for their roles.
“Local employers have been incredibly supportive of the scheme, with the development and use of digital skills at the heart of many of the roles created,” said Darren Thomas, the Council’s Head of Infrastructure.
“We’re thrilled that so many opportunities for young people in Pembrokeshire have been generated by this scheme.”
Kickstart jobs include the chance to work a range or employment sectors such as engineering, sports coaching, youth work, food production, tourism and retail.
Pembrokeshire schools are supporting the scheme by providing opportunities for young people to start their careers in supporting teaching and learning. Kickstart jobs are available as trainee learning support assistants, technical resources assistants and administration and caretaking roles.
The Council is also offering the chance for young people to experience work across its services, with Kickstart jobs available in highways maintenance, community work, business support, training support and refuse and recycling.
