CAREW WI members, happy to meet up after the summer break, were excited to watch John Blake demonstrate his consummate skills as a wood turner.

John explained each stage with humour, explaining about the choice of wood used, the tools and inviting the ladies to have a go. He made a bowl / tea light holder and a pen, while his audience watched with interest and admiration.

Before their eyes, John made such beautiful items and although he made it look easy, they were evidently in the presence of a master.

Volunteers helped out with preparation and adding colour and John very kindly donated the finished items for raffle prizes. He and Sonya stayed to share tea and cake and insisted on sweeping up all the wood shavings.

Members wished him well for the future and then settled into the business meeting after singing Jerusalem. Birthdays celebrated, minutes ratified and signed, correspondence dealt with then the County Letter was shared. Thoughts then turned to planning Christmas outings.
