A LEADING and long-established Pembrokeshire pumpkin patch has opened for its seventh season to the sound of flying pumpkins!

Windsor Farm Pumpkin Patch in Lamphey, near Pembroke, opened over the weekend of October 4 and 5, and this year a pumpkin cannon has been added to the attractions at the free-to-visit patch.

Purpose built, the cannon fires the farm’s home-grown pumpkins with visitors aiming at targets in one of the fields.

Windsor Farm is a family run sheep, beef and arable farm on the South Pembrokeshire coast. It is currently farmed by David and Ruth Phillips (third generation) and Andrew and Jane Phillips (fourth generation. Young Eddie, aged 7, will eventually become the fifth generation farmer.

The Farm is mixed, primarily sheep, beef and arable crops. In 2019 the farm diversified into growing pumpkins and each year has opened a Pumpkin Patch for the Public.

The farm also plays host to Pembroke Farmers Club’s Town and Country Show which takes place on the Show Field on the first Wednesday each August.

Andrew Phillips, fourth generation farmer of Windsor Farm said: “Each year since we opened, we try to make our Patch bigger and better. We saw these cannons in England and thought that Wales should have one too!”

Each October, the mixed farm, transforms into an all-weather attraction with much of it undercover. The Pumpkin Barn has thousands of impressive pumpkins with over 20 varieties grown on the farm. The many returning visitors find it so difficult to choose from the extensive indoor and outdoor displays. One such display was chosen for this month’s image in local photographer Grace Davies’ 2025 calendar.

Alongside the pumpkins are honey and beeswax candles produced by Pembrokeshire Coast Honey from the bees that live on Windsor Farm. They forage on wild flowers and plants within a mile radius of the farm and help fertilise the pumpkin flowers to produce the pumpkins.

In the Farm Barn, visitors can find a small selection of the farm’s animals, ride on tractors and a sandpit for the little ones and Emburs’ pop-up café selling coffee, hot chocolate and an amazing selection of brownies and cakes.

Windsor Farm has 100 per cent positive reviews on Facebook, with 106 reviewers sharing about their experiences. They praise the warm welcome, helpful and engaging staff and that everything is easily accessible and well signed. Visitors appreciate the enjoyable experience it provides for young children, seeing the farm animals, diggers and tractors and enjoying the play barn.

Reviews celebrate the beauty and variety of pumpkins at the Pumpkin Patch. The Embers café proves to be a major hit too, with visitors appreciating the chance to relax with a hot drink and a treat.
