Lower Landsker Trefoil members have been enjoying the beautiful weather that has made being outdoors such a pleasure, and this was ideal for the Guild’s annual pilgrimage to Caldey Island.

The trip took place in June and, thankfully, the sun shone and the sea was calm. The walk up to the lighthouse and back down to the chocolate factory was enjoyed by all, as was the welcome ice cream from the tea gardens before the trip back.

They were pleased to be joined by Catherine from the Haverfordwest Guild and by their newer members.

Later in the month, Margaret, Barbara and Jenny V spent two peaceful nights at the Guest House on Caldey, though the trip over was far from peaceful as they had to travel in a rib in very stormy conditions. It did mean that they and the other guests had the island to themselves for two days, and they were privileged to be joined by the Abbot for a very convivial meal on their last evening. Thankfully, the journey home was calm and trouble free and all three agreed that it was a wonderfully peaceful few days with superb hospitality.

Some Lower Landsker members joined with Haverfordwest members to enjoy a meal together at The Bush, Robeston Wathen. It was good to renew old friendships once again, they said.

There have been trips to the Torch Theatre, efficiently organised by Lower Landsker Guild’s member for culture, Liz. These included a trip to see the controversial film, ‘The Salt Path’, which was enjoyed by all before the recent negative publicity it received.

The July monthly meeting saw members walk from Amroth to Colby Lodge where they enjoyed delicious cakes, coffee and chat. They were delighted to welcome back Joan, recovering from breaking her hip; all were impressed with her determination and positivity.

One Wednesday evening, eight members decided to sample one of the famous Sailing Club barbecues and declared that they can thoroughly recommend them. All tastes were catered for and a very pleasant evening was enjoyed by everyone.

The Wednesday walks continue and coffee is often taken on the Harbour to make the most of the sunshine. Can it last all summer?

For the August meeting on August 6, members will meet for coffee at Tenby Fire Station in support of the Annual Firemen’s Carnival. Undoubtedly the conversation will include memories of happy days: decorating lorries when many of them were Guide and Brownie leaders, and of the much missed Brian Hodder who always took them on his milk lorry.
