HAVERFORDWEST County Councillor Thomas Tudor has championed a Pembrokeshire charity amid praise for a recent event in the town.

“It was great to attend the Haverfordwest River Festival 2026,” he said. “It was so nice to see so many people visit the the County Town of Pembrokeshire, and many thanks to everyone who supported this amazing event and to all the volunteers who helped make this such a special occasion.”

While he was there, Cllr Tudor caught up with Amanda Absalom-Lowe. Amanda is the found and chair of Pembrokeshire Care, Share & Give, which does amazing work in our community.

The non-profit charity was set up to help many charities, community groups and people in Pembrokeshire, in Wales, and sometimes further afield like Ireland and even Kenya, through recycling in all its forms.

Times are hard for everyone, but it has been set up to get the word out that most things are recyclable and it can raise money for charity and the Community along the way. Pembrokeshire Care, Share & Give is not charity; they have actually been doing this for over 13 years, winning accolades and awards in the process.

In 2016, Amanda won the Radio Pembrokeshire Local Hero Green Award, sponsored by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. In 2017, Pembrokeshire Care Share & Give won the Cynnal Cymru, Wales Sustainable Community Group Award. In 2018 Trustee Kiri Howells won Cynnal Wales Sustainable Academy Awards Sustainable Champion, and in 2019 Trustee Deena came Runner-Up and Highly Commended in the PAVS Volunteering Awards.

Amanda was nominated in the BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour Power List 2020; that year she was also presented the High Sheriff of Dyfed Award and the Haverfordwest Town Council Award of Merit, going on to win PAVS volunteer of the year in 2021.

The charity’s way of working has changed over the years: they used to recycle household or business rubbish. Everyday waste like crisp packets, savoury packets, peanuts packets, sweet and biscuit wrappers, old mobile phones, used stationery and postage stamps can now be taken to Norman Industries in Snowdrop Lane. (Contact Norman Industries for more information on [email protected]).

The charity is still very active, however, and always appreciative of continued support.

They save food and products being wasted. To date they have saved tons of food being wasted and have supplied hot and cold food to community groups and charities.

Any unwanted household items, clothes, shoes, bric-a-brac and toys donated may be resold to raise money for charities. Food, toiletries and household items are bought for those in need, handed to groups and charities serving homeless people. Items are also used for Pembrokeshire Care Share & Give Rainbow Emergency Packs which are donated to local hospitals for those in need of washing facilities when they are admitted in an emergency.

New toys are bought for various Christmas toy appeals and donated to PATCH, 3 Amigos, etc.
