IN a full and memorable weekend, Pembroke saw the inauguration of its 647th Mayor and a blessing for the newly restored bells at St Mary’s Church.
Mayor Cllr Jonathan Grimes and Mayoress Cllr Deborah Willcocks presided at a civic lunch held at the Town Hall, welcoming Karen Codd from Sandy Bear to announce a charity partnership for the year ahead and raising over £300 in support of the Mayor’s chosen charity.

“For my mayoral year, I am truly honoured to support Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity as my chosen Charity of the Year,” said Cllr Grimes.
“The work carried out by Sandy Bear is invaluable, providing compassionate support to children and young people facing bereavement and loss during some of the most difficult times in their lives. Through care, understanding, and dedicated guidance, the charity helps young people and families find comfort, strength, and hope when they need it most.”
He added: “Adding to the occasion was an impromptu raffle, which raised an incredible £350 - a fantastic start to what I hope will be a successful year of fundraising and support.
“I hope that, over the coming year, we as a community can give something back to this remarkable organisation and help support the vital work it continues to do across our communities.”
The charity responded with thanks to the Mayor and the whole team. “All of us at Sandy Bear are exceptionally grateful and can't wait to support your events throughout the year, while raising awareness and vital funds to help us continue our mission.”
The weekend concluded with a service at St Mary’s Church, where the Bishop of St Davids offered a blessing for the newly installed bells.
Pembroke Street Pastors expressed delight in having been invited, while the Town Council conveyed sincere thanks to all who attended and contributed to these meaningful events.
