CLIVE Collins, president of Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir and its number one supporter, was sung out in style by choristers at a concert at Pembroke Town Hall.

Mr Collins has reluctantly decided to stand down after many years in the post, always supported by his wife, Enid.

His last official duty was to present long service certificates to six choristers who between them have amassed 182 loyal years with the choir.

Warm tribute was paid to Mr Collins by the choir’s newly elected Chairman, David Halsted, who himself received a certificate marking a remarkable 50 years as a choir member. Mr Collins has been made a Life Vice President.

The well attended concert on March 27, organised by Pembroke Town Council, was in aid of both the Mayor’s Fund, to purchase defibrillators, and choir funds.

Mayor Gareth Jones welcomed the choir and guests, including Deputy Lord Lieutenant Dr Chris Martin and civil heads from other county communities.

Despite begin reduced in numbers due to illness, the choir was in fine voice with the small baritone section of Gerry Gommo, Ron Rees and Ed Morris coping splendidly with their solo sections. Making his choir debut was first tenor Paul Owen.

Musical Director Juliet Rossiter’s choice of programme was warmly applauded, and the accompanist was the Rev William Lambert. Following recent tradition MC Matthew John invited audience participation for the Elvis Presley classic ‘American Trilogy’ and five responded, including Matthew’s father, Steve.

For the first time the choir welcomed Donna Jones of Llanfallteg as guest soloist and she delighted with four numbers - from Broadway musicals to Bob Dylan and an English folksong, accompanied by Juliet. Choristers look forward to sharing the stage with Donna again soon.

Thanks were extended to Suzie Thomas and Kaylee White from the Town Council team and choir secretary David Powell for their excellent arrangements. Over £900 was realised from this most successful musical evening.
