One of Europe’s most colourful moths appears to have been dining out in Tenby with friends.
Droves of the scarlet tiger moth (Callimorpha dominula), were spotted on Sunday by local councillor and wildlife lover Trevor Hallett, feeding on Hemp agrimony plants on the North Cliff.
Referring to his trusty ‘Field Guide to Moths of Great Britain and Ireland’ by Waring and Townsend, Clr. Hallett identified the colourful moth, which is known to use upper parts of beaches and under-cliff coastal areas as it’s habitat.
“I’ve never seen so many, you’re normally lucky to see one or two, but there were 25 of them around that area of Tenby on Sunday,” said Clr. Hallett of the insect, which is unmistakable with white and yellow spots on black and red wings
