Narberth community arts organisation Span Arts is kicking off an exciting new programme of Art Appetisers next weekend, with clowning workshops in Clarbeston Road Hall and Bloomfield, Narberth on Friday, October 24.

This sees the launch of a series of taster workshops ranging from singing and crafting to poetry and dance, which will run until March 2015 in the Bloomfield Centre, Narberth, Clarbeston Road Hall and Maenclochog Hall.

"This opening weekend is going to be pretty exciting," said Span Arts community engagement officer Emily Laurens. "Clowning is something that anyone can do, it's fun and funny, and since it's all about failure, there's no chance of getting it wrong!"

The clowning workshops will be led by Cardiff based Clare Parry-Jones, a clown who has toured internationally, worked with Wales' very own No Fit State and who clowns in children's hospitals.

The launch weekend will also feature an opportunity to try Kinetic Drawing in a series of workshops running from Saturday to Monday, October 25 to 27.

"Kinetic Drawing is very interesting and something anyone can do," said Emily. "The workshop was inspired by American artist Heather Hansen who uses her whole body and movement to draw onto huge sheets of paper on the floor. It is somewhere in-between dance and drawing and great for all ages, especially children."

Span Arts has secured funding from PAVS under the heading Caring Communities to tackle rural isolation in the areas surrounding Narberth, Clarbeston Road and Maenclochog. The focus of the projects is 'intergenerational', meaning to bring people of all ages together.

The workshops are open to all ages and abilities. These taster sessions will form part of a research and development phase of a larger, longer-term intergenerational rural project that Span Arts hopes to launch in 2015.
