The operators of a local bus service that assists those with limited mobility have issued a plea for volunteer drivers.
Caroline Wilson, manager for Preseli Rural Transport Association, also known as ‘Green Dragon Bus’, is hoping that a plea through the media will help them find new friendly drivers for their services.
“We operate town rider and dial-a-ride community transport services in many areas of Pembrokeshire, including Tenby and Pembroke/Pembroke Dock, and these services are for those who cannot access normal public transport,” explained Caroline.
“We run services in the Tenby/Saundersfoot area three times a week and in Pembroke/Pembroke Dock twice a week.
“We are in need of a driver or drivers for our service in Tenby on a Friday and in Pembroke/Pembroke Dock on a Thursday.
“Drivers need to have D1 on their driving licence and further training will be given if necessary. A driver’s licence check will be carried out before any training would commence.
“The driver would be self-employed or a volunteer and must be friendly, like dealing with people, and be chatty and helpful.
“Drivers help the passengers on and off the vehicle and help carry their shopping from the vehicle to the house should the need arise.
“Our minibus is based currently in Narberth and is accessible, so it is really able to help those with limited mobility get out to do their shopping, attend appointments with health professionals, hairdressers, etc. and they can use the service to visit friends,” she added.
