While Burnett’s Hill Chapel near Martletwy is unable to host concerts at present, being too cosy to allow for social distancing, the Chapel Friends have been fortunate in finding a nearby venue to allow the long-running programme of live music to carry on.

“We are very grateful to Kevin and Debbie at the Snooty Fox country pub for allowing us to use their function room for concerts,” said Friends’ chairman Keith Johnson. “It means that we can still have our usual audience numbers, but spread out safely in a large and airy space.

“And the chairs are more comfortable than the chapel pews, which is a great bonus.”

The Friends have already staged one concert at the Snooty Fox, a sell-out show featuring the Cory Seznec Trio, and will be following this up on November 17 with a concert by Sheelanagig.

For over a decade this Bristol band have brought their array of foot-stomping folk tunes to audiences across the globe. A quintet with a well-stocked armoury of stringed instruments plus the rhythmic energy of flute and drums, they perform furious Irish and Balkan dance medleys as well as interestingly-arranged and often humorous original pieces.

“The fact that they often play with a knowing wink doesn’t obscure their impeccable technique and outstanding musicianship,” added Keith. “In recent years they have toured France, Switzerland and Australia as well as being featured on a full live session on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show. It should be another great night.”

Tickets for the concert can be reserved by phoning 01641 651725.
