Among matters considered and discussed at last month’s meeting of Carew Community Council were the following.

It was with sadness that councillors learned of the death of Mr. Jim Trainer earlier that day. Mr. Trainer served diligently as a community councillor in past years and it was agreed to send a message of condolence to his family.

MATTERS ARISING FROM?THE?MINUTES

• Communication received from agents to Carew Caste Estate on the wall opposite Carew Inn and that the appropriate consents from the Local Authority were awaited prior to undertaking repairs.

• Councillors perused the previous plans for Hays Lane and identified the parking bays.

• A reply was awaited from Streetcare at PCC on the withdrawn fence at the detrunked road in Sageston. Also to seek further clarification.

CORRESPONDENCE

• Acknowledgement of receipt of donation to Pisgah Baptist Chapel received.

• A request was received for a donation towards the cost of further IT equipment for classrooms and new reading materials at Sageston School. Following discussion, it was agreed in the first instance to seek clarification on whether the community council could donate to another local authority organisation and if so it was agreed that £100 be donated.

• A letter was received from a resident in Whitehill asking for a defibrillator in the telephone kiosk there. The chair confirmed that this provision had previously been discussed and a grant for the same applied for in the Enhancing Pembrokeshire Grant.

• Notice was received of various roads in the parish that had been identified for carriageway patching and resurfacing works, including A4075 Carew - Freestone Cross, B4318 Sageston - Manor Park and C3124 West Jordanston - Pincheston.

• A communication was received from PCC, forwarded on from Dyfed Powys Police, regarding monitoring of community tensions in the light of Brexit. Councillors noted this communication with interest.

• Communication was received regarding Long Course Weekend, July 5-7, and the likelihood of further road closures, including A4075 Carew Bridge to Yerbeston, closed from 8 am to 3.30 pm, on Saturday, July 6, and Deer Park Lane, Milton to Golden Lane, Pembroke, closed south bound, 10.30 am to 1 pm, on Sunday, July 7.

• Communication was received from St. Mary’s Church on two interpretation panels to go inside the porch and history of the church. Councillors were complimentary on the very informative brochure and panels and look forward to seeing the panels when they are installed.

PARISH MATTERS

• It was agreed to submit a request for dog fouling signs and a bin at Redberth play area.

• Dog fouling was again a problem outside Sageston School. It was agreed to ask for prohibition of dog fouling signs. Environmental enforcement officers would also be in both these areas in the forthcoming weeks.

• Compliments were to be given to Highways on the speed of attention to a recent urgent phone call made by Clr. Gibby on the repair/replacement of a missing drain cover in Carew Newton.

• Highways were aslo to be informed that the road from Butts Lane to West Williamston was very hazardous to bicycle users.

• A strap was broken on the signpost to West Williamston at the bottom of Butts Lane/Carew Newton.

• A request was to be made for the repainting of the yellow lines from Carew Inn to the telephone box.

• Congestion of parked cars just off the junction in Milton village was again discussed. This was an ongoing problem and would be kept under review.

• Condition of the verges at Sageston School around the speed ramps was discussed. Gravel had been applied to the verge to fill in the potholes, but this had washed away.

• The footpath from Sageston roundabout to The Plough was green and slippery and hazardous and urgent attention from PCC was required.

• A request was made for the repainting of white lines at the junction off Sageston roundabout to Redberth.

• Dwr Cymru were to be asked to monitor Milton playground with the high tides expected.
