Before the start of the June meeting of Carew Community Council, the chairman, Clr. Thomas, welcomed new member Daniel Mumford.

Afterwards among matters considered and discussed were the following:

Insurance - Two quotes were received and following discussion it was proposed and seconded that the cheaper insurance quote be accepted. All present agreed.

Roundabouts - A letter was received from Edwina Hart, Minister for Economy, Science and Transport at the Welsh Assembly Government, regarding A470 roundabouts. The minister had asked her officials to consider a planting scheme using trees, shrubs, bulbs and wild flowers that would visually enhance both roundabouts, and would be in contact again when the review had been undertaken.

Nash Finger Post - A letter was also received from Edwina Hart regarding the A477 junction at Nash Finger Post. The minister's officials are currently designing a revised central reserve layout for this junction which would improve the layout, signs and markings and reduce the conflict between turning vehicles. It was anticipated that construction of the improvements would commence towards the start of 2014.

Castle rubbish - Correspondence was received from the interim site manager at Carew Castle regarding the lack of rubbish bins at the picnic area at Carew Castle. The castle management continued to encourage a 'take your rubbish home' policy. A daily litter pick of the causeway and picnic area site was undertaken during the summer season and the dog foul bins were checked and emptied on a regular basis by the site warden. The castle manager was happy to provide a litter bin on site, providing the community council got an agreement from PCC to empty it. Community councillors agreed to make these arrangements with PCC and to ask Andrea Griffiths to inform the community council so that PCC knew when to begin emptying the new bin.

Dog fouling - The clerk reported on a meeting she and County Clr. Neale had had with the Environmental Health Department at PCC. There were only three dog wardens in Pembrokeshire, so the chance of catching errant dogs and owners was slim. The Environmental Health Department want members of the public to inform them of dog fouling in three ways - via the PCC website, via telephone or via a new application for suitable phones whereby the incident could be captured and then acted upon directly. However, this app would not be available until after the end of the year. Environmental Health would contact the community council nearer the time to inform of the new service.

Gates - PCNPA would remove the gate and raised beds at the War Memorial and reposition the gate.

Replacement of the kissing gate at Carew Newton Cemetery was to be processed by a local craftsman.

Bus Shelter, Teagues Cross - A quote received. Following discussion, it was agreed to ask for all external woodwork to be removed and replaced with plastics.

PLANNING:

A Planning Inspectorate report on a dwelling at Taskers Garden, opposite the Smithy, West Williamston, was received and noted.

Provision of single storey extension to form entrance porch, side extension to enlarge bedroom and provide en-suite facilities and new rear living room extension at Waters Edge, Cresselly - application withdrawn.

CORRESPONDENCE

A letter was received from the County Under 15s cricket manager informing the council that three boys who play for Carew Cricket Club had been selected for matches against Gloucestershire and Staffordshire on August 7 and 8. A request was made for a donation towards the cost of accommodation, transport or team clothing. It was proposed and seconded that £50 be donated for each.

A letter was received asking for permission to erect a seat at Carew Newton Cemetery. This was agreed to in principle. The relative size and composition of the bench/seat was to be obtained.

Dwr Cymru - Welsh Water would be visiting the area during the coming weeks to track down small kiosk style structures which formed part of the sewerage network. This information was noted.

A letter was received from the treasurer of St Mary's Church, Carew Cheriton, requesting a donation towards the cost of upkeep of the two burial grounds. Following discussion, it was proposed and seconded and all present agreed that £275 be donated.

PARISH MATTERS

A sign was needed at the rear of the Hall to prevent blocking up of the fire exit.

A sign 'Slow Caution Children Playing' was also needed. This had been requested before from PCC, but the clerk was to chase this up.

Sign repair - The 20 mph at Sageston School was bent and needed straightening.

Speeding up and down Bartletts Well Road - This was an ongoing issue and the PCSOs were aware of the problem. Residents were urged to contact 101 to inform the Police when the problem occurred, thereby providing supporting evidence from the phone logs to enable the problem to be rectified.

There was a problem with the road at Whitehill, near Little Meadow, where the gully at the side of the road was deep and might cause a problem to cyclists.

Two more packs were to be ordered from BT to paint the phone boxes at Redberth and Milton.
