A cancer support bus aimed at those who are in need, paid a visit to Pembrokeshire this week.

The bus named Bronwen is run by the Macmillan cancer support charity which aims to give support to people who have been affected by the disease.

Macmillin cancer support travel up and down Wales using the bus, visiting various places across the country.

Yesterday (Thursday), Bronwen visited Narberth where people could sit down and talk about their concerns.

Macmillan cancer information support specialist, Cerys Morris, said: “We visit lots of different areas, remote towns, cities.

“We spend a lot of our time just reaching people who feel they don’t have a lot of service in their area and what we do is talk to people.

“They come aboard to talk to us about how they are affected by cancer.

“That could mean they have a cancer diagnosis, it means they are worried about cancer, it may mean they’ve lost somebody to cancer or they just pop on to ask what we are doing, how they can fundraise, how can they be part of us or thank us for looking after them at some point in their life.

“We are here with a team of specialists to answer any questions and signpost them to local services.”

With Pembrokeshire full of towns and villages that are in rural places, the county has struggled to provide enough cancer support services.

With Macmillan visiting remote places across Wales using Bronwen, this is one of the few ways to help plug the gap.

As Ms. Morris explained: “We try and engage with the local services that are available to make sure we are here and do our very best to signpost those people and refer into those services.

“Sometimes there’s more services around than people are aware of and if they are not, we do everything we can to engage with communities to see what can be provided.”

Sometimes getting cancer support can be difficult for lots of reasons.

However, Ms. Morris was keen to stress that the charity would be on hand to help those people going on the journey.

She, said: “Come on board and meet us, we are a friendly team and we are here to provide emotional support, practical support, information booklets, signposting and referring.

“We’d welcome you and support you on your cancer journey.”

Macmillan cancer support will be in Haverfordwest today (Friday) to give people help and advice that they may need. The Bronwen bus will at Castle Square from 10 am-4 pm.
