Staff and volunteers at the Cancer Research UK shop in Tenby were joined by the town’s Mayor on Monday to celebrate 25 years of the store opening.
The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, and the town crier, Jim Cornwell, helped welcome customers into the shop situated in Tudor Square to mark the milestone occasion.
Shop manager Lorraine Kucuk, staff and volunteers were also joined by Sian Whelan, Cancer Research UK senior nurse for Wales, and Dr. Alexa Bishop, research engagement manager, who brought along some interactive activities, including a microscope, to the event to highlight the groundbreaking cancer research happening here in Wales.
This research is possible due to the money that is raised for Cancer Research UK supporters and in shops across Wales.
“It was wonderful to meet the dedicated volunteers and staff in the Tenby shop today and have a celebration worthy of the achievement - 25 years is just incredible,” said Dr. Bishop.
“It was an honour to share with them where the money goes that is raised in the shop and the impact that it has on patients across Wales,” she added.
“We all have equally important roles, including shop staff and volunteers, to help patients get treatments and clinical trials in order to get better outcomes and kinder treatments,” remarked Sian.
Shop manager Lorraine said: “Many thanks to all for their continued support, whether it be volunteering, shopping or donations. Thanks also go to Jago, Tenby Rocks and Peacocks for their new item donations.
“Anyone interested in volunteering, please do not hesitate to contact the shop on 01834 845451 or pop in,” she added.
