A young fundraiser from Kilgetty has been baking away over Easter to help raise as much funds towards Cancer Research UK, in memory of her great grans who both lost their battles to the disease.

Ten-year-old Caitlin Probert has spent the Easter break baking cupcakes to raise money in honour of both her great grans Marion and Ruth and to help in the fight against cancer.

“I’m raising as much as I can to beat cancer, and as I love baking, I thought what better way to raise money than by doing something I love!

“I will forever be reminded of the strength of my great grans throughout their fight but want more than anything for a cure to be found so people will no longer lose lives to this savage disease.

Caitlin started off in the hope of raising £50 for the charity, but could not believe it when she soon reached £873 through her fundraising page over the Easter bank holiday.

“I’m totally gobsmacked - and a massive thank you to everyone who has helped me! I’d like to think both my great grans would be looking down smiling, and because of that and the thought that fundraising may help even in a small way I shall be smiling too as I bake my next batch!” she continued.

Caitlin’s mum Layla said: “She’s done it completely by herself apart from me doing the deliveries and washing up! This includes buying ingredients/supplies with her pocket money.

“She has baked well over 60 boxes of six cupcakes and has at least another 50 to go. She has done such a fab job, we are the proudest parents!”
