Pembrokeshire County Council's Cabinet is to be asked on Monday to approve the closure of a residential home.

Sunnybank in Narberth -which only has eight residents - has been the subject of a 15-week consultation period.

A report to Cabinet in November revealed that the cost of maintaining each resident in the home was more than £1,000 a week - more than twice the cost of commissioning a residential placement in the independent sector.

Built in the 1960s, repairing physical defects and bringing it up to modern day standards would cost the council around £3 million.

A report to be presented to Monday's Cabinet meeting asks for the closure of Sunnybank to be approved because the building is outdated.

The report states: "We cannot identify the funds to undertake the significant improvements required and there are good alternatives in residential, nursing and extra care facilities for the residents.

"Furthermore, Sunnybank should immediately stop taking admissions so that the closure can be sensitively and carefully managed.

"Residents will be supported to move to alternative accommodation of their choice as soon as practicable."
