The month of March has been a busy month for members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot.

On Saturday, March 3, the day of the Cawl Trail by the Sea in Saundersfoot, the Chamber for Tourism held a Village Showcase in the Regency Hall for community groups. Rotarian Brian Jenkins, president-elect, arranged and managed a stall, staffed by club members throughout the day, that displayed many of the events and projects we hold throughout the year.

These include: training and managing the Tenderfoot team who compete in the Wales Disabled Sports Team Championship each November; Planting Purple Crocuses to recognise Rotary’s global initiative in the fight to eradicate Polio; Shoebox appeal which sends gifts to families in Eastern Europe - over 1,000 boxes collected in Autumn 2018; collecting tools to send to Africa.

This Saturday was also the day that Saundersfoot was visited by two members of the Wales rugby union team, captain Alun-Wyn Jones and hooker Ken Owens, who posed for photos next to the Rotary display.

Monday, March 11, was the Annual Charity Quiz Night (previously reported) which was a great success, allowing the club to present a cheque to Wales Air Ambulance, as seen in the photo. Many members acted as waiters on the night!

On Monday, March 18, one of the club’s founder members, Rotarian Ian Nicholls, presented his reminiscences of his time in Rotary. Ian’s light-hearted talk, illustrated by a slide show of humorous and touching photos, was a great reminder of the fellowship and enjoyment that members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot have gained in the service and support they offer the community.

On Saturda, March 23, another opportunity to show the Rotary Club’s activities was arranged by Rotarian Brian Jenkins as part of the Regency Hall’s own Open Day. As before, the Rotary stall was an attractive, informative display which attracted much interest and positive comments. Local chemist, John Patel helped on the day by offering free blood pressure checks to people who visited the stand.

Yesterday (Thursday), several members of the club were due to help at the Technology Tournament between schools from all over Pembrokeshire, which was held at Pembrokeshire College.

The club’s upcoming events include duck races in Saundersfoot Harbour, a Pig Roast and Barbecue on the Harbour decking and a Sandcastle competition on the beach.

If you can offer help with any of these events, please ring secretary, Rotarian Brian Waters, on 01834 813665.
