’Tis the season to be jolly but Dyfed Powys Police is asking revellers to also know your limits and drink sensibly.

Everyone likes to enjoy themselves at Christmas, but each year police deal with a minority of revellers who don’t know when to stop. This can often lead to problems such as anti-social behaviour and crime including violent crime, domestic abuse and drink-driving offences.

“We don’t want to spoil people’s enjoyment at this time of year,” said Sergeant Buckle. “But we ask that revellers consider the effects that excessive drinking can have on themselves and others and drink within their limits. Alcohol can make people behave in ways they never normally would.”

As part of Operation Santa, Dyfed Powys Police is reminding people to be aware of drink spiking. This is when another substance is added to a person’s drink without their knowledge.

If you feel drunk, light-headed or ill after just a few drinks, then seek help from a trusted friend or member of staff. And remember to watch out for your friends - if they seem to be showing these symptoms help them.

“This doesn’t happen often within Dyfed Powys but it is worth being aware of it, nonetheless. So don’t leave your drink unattended and don’t accept drinks from strangers,” said Sergeant Buckle.
