Fundraisers will be asked to bake their socks off for soldiers again at this year's 'Colossal Cake Sale' to be held in Narberth.

The event takes place on Saturday, May 10, in aid of the charity Help for Heroes, at the Townsmoor Car Park.

Last year was a great success, but the ornagisers ran out of cakes! So this year they are asking participants to roll up their sleeves again and bake their socks off.

Help for Heroes is a charity that supports wounded soldiers and their families and assists in the transition to civilian life for those who are no longer able to continue in the army.

It can be an incredibly difficult time for service men and women when they realise they are no longer able to continue with their military career and have to face up to a life in 'civvy street' with no skills or training to equip them for the move and often with extreme disabilities.

Help for heroes provides support for this change in life by providing support and training and new challenges which open up new careers.

The charity also supports soldiers with PTSD - a hidden and silent affliction that can affect people when it appears that the physical wounds are healed.

It is now understood that PTSD can remain hidden for up to 10 years after a traumatising event.

This year, the organisers of the 'Colossal Cake Sale' are going to produce a recipe book out of contributors' recipes, so they would be very grateful if people who would like to get involved could send in their favourite ones.

Cakes, jams, bread, savouries etc., anything you would like to share - all proceeds will go to the charity.

If you have any photos of your produce, you can send them in too.

"Please help to make this year's Colossal Cake Sale a huge success," said one of the organisers Sally Amoore.

"We did really well last year, raising £4,500 in spite of running out of cakes! This year we want to double it!

"Please bake your socks off for our soldiers. We welcome it all, cakes, biscuits, preserves etc," she added.
