Attempts to remove an information board carrying a ‘Clean Seas’ message in?Pembroke Dock has been slammed by the town council.
“Unfortunately there have been some attempts to remove the information sign for ‘Bertie the Sea Bass’ which has resulted in damage to the block paving outside the library,” said a spokesperson for Pembroke Dock town council.
“Bertie has been all over the county with no other town having any issues resulting in damage, yet it has come to Pembroke Dock and there have been two attempts to cause damage to the structure since it arrived two weeks ago!
“Pembroke Dock has been given a fantastic opportunity to showcase ‘Bertie the Sea Bass and it sadness us to see this opportunity being abused,” they added.
“It’s a sad day when an individual or individuals decide to vandalise the board by ‘Bertie the Sea Bass,” remarked county councillor Josh Beynon, main lead on the project for Pembroke Dock.
“If anyone knows anything please ring 101 as this has been reported to the police,” he added.
The award winning ‘Bertie’ is helping to raise awareness across Pembrokeshire on the impact of plastics in the seas.
The 14 by seven-foot sculpture is located outside Pembroke Dock library and will be in town until mid July.
Anyone with any information regarding the damage or witnesses anyone attempting to damage the structure are asked to please contact the local policing team on 101 or notify the Town Council offices in Dimond Street.
