Pictured at the opening of the new art exhibition, Seeing the Sea, at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, are chairman of the trustees, Clr. Michael Williams, and artist Elizabeth Haines.
The exhibition by Elizabeth features nearly 50 works that have connections with the sea.
Elizabeth stated: "Until I started to prepare for this show, I had not realised for how long I had been seeing the sea, and for how long it has been an undercurrent in my work. 'How frail our craft, how great yon sea' is a telling metaphor for the human condition. Afloat on this fragile sea, safe harbours sometimes turn out not to be as safe as we had hoped; a prospect of the sea from a curtained window, a tiny sail on the horizon, all these can be rich in association and meaning."
Of the works in the show, Elizabeth said: "None of the harbours are 'real' ones. But for many years I have drawn such places, and the ones which appear in paintings may be inspired by aspects of St. Malo, Dover, Oban, Whitby, Fishguard, Barfleur, Tenby and many others. Drawings and watercolours of these can be seen in the sketchbooks."
The sale show runs until Sunday, September 4.
